TBY talks to Saeed Al Abbar, Chairman, Emirates Green Building Council (EmiratesGBC), on the sector.

Saeed Al Abbar

What are some specific ways we can power the main cities of the UAE in a more sustainable manner?

The Annual EmiratesGBC Congress serves as one of the region's key platforms for stakeholders in the green building sector to meet and discuss the challenges and opportunities in securing a more sustainable future. The overarching theme of the sixth Annual EmiratesGBC Congress reflects on the concepts of energy efficient and energy-centric green building design as a facilitator of smart technology, happiness, and wellbeing. It is important to generate economies of scale for sustainable energy generation and building management, especially for a densely populated urban environment.

How do you ensure that sustainable building and environmental awareness momentum spreads beyond the UAE?

Across the wider MENA region, we have been at the forefront of driving dialog on green building development. In fact, we have supported the WorldGBC to set up the MENA GBC Network to drive concrete action that promotes environmental sustainability across the region. Our annual EmiratesGBC Congress is regarded as one of the leading industry initiatives in fostering strong collaboration among all stakeholders and highlighting industry best practices.
