TBY talks to YB Pehin Dato Lim Jock Seng, Minister at the Prime Minister's Office & Second Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Brunei, on the sector.

YB Pehin Dato Lim Jock Seng

How would you describe the current state of relations between Brunei and Saudi Arabia?

The recent visit of King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud was indeed a great honor and marked a significant milestone in our bilateral relations, which were established over 30 years ago. Over the years, we have established a close working cooperation with Saudi Arabia in a number of areas. We commend His Majesty King Salman's role as the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques and appreciate the generous assistance extended to all pilgrims during the Hajj and Umrah seasons, including from Brunei Darussalam.

What were some of the concrete steps taken to boost bilateral ties between Saudi Arabia and Brunei in the coming years?

Brunei Darussalam and Saudi Arabia share many economic similarities and have the same goals in diversifying our economies. As both countries are oil and gas producing countries, there are a number of ways that we can complement each other. We have established a joint commission to discuss potential areas of cooperation. Saudi Arabia can also take advantage of our strategic location by making Brunei a regional hub for its businesses and a gateway to the ASEAN market and beyond, while Saudi Arabia can be our gateway to the Middle East.
