How do forums like Panama GBF2019 facilitate business partnerships?

This is an opportunity for Haiti, which is the reason why I am here today to be part of this forum. In fact, we have the opportunity and the possibility to create a new way to relate between Dubai and Haiti, and Dubai with the Caribbean. The importance of participating here in the Global Business Forum is to be part of the networking and take advantage of a platform where the entrepreneurs can share, which is important for their businesses and of course to boost businesses in Latin America and the Caribbean. This is an opportunity for the Emirates to invest, and to invest in Haiti. In fact, I personally encourage such events and even more in the Caribbean. Haiti could be the next host country for the next Global Business Forum in 2020.

What opportunities for growth do you see in LATAM and the Caribbean?

Latin America and the Caribbean currently count on many opportunities when we talk about economic growth. Most of the countries are expanding within the regions. As a consequence, people from the Caribbean must continue to focus, for example, on areas such as technology, innovation, and industrial agriculture, and we must identify those other opportunities further down the road, which must become a state policy. As a matter of fact, I have mentioned this during my electoral campaign, along with the political stability that this can generate.

What synergies between Haiti and Dubai can business leverage?

Countries located in the Gulf, in fact, the UAE, have great experience when it comes to oil production and how to diversify constantly the economy, and that brings opportunities to countries such as Haiti. For example, we signed an agreement 19 years ago to export wool and 5,000 different products to the US without any taxes, which is a chance to invest for the UAE today and to have even more access to the North and South American markets. Hence, this is a chance for the investment located in the UAE to come to Haiti and subsequently to the US, especially in electro domestics, electronics, technology, agriculture, and cruise ships tourism. In fact, Haiti currently receives 800 cruise ships each year with the Royal Caribbean brand, because there are a great deal of attractions. We have five islands where we receive tourism. Thus, this is something that we would like to improve to attract greater investment from the UAE to work together and develop these islands with land reclamation, similar to Singapore to bring financial ventures and develop cities for the future.
