TBY talks to Ayoub Haji Valizadeh Shabestari , Managing Director & Deputy Chairman, Tanavob Company, on the sector.

Ayoub Haji Valizadeh Shabestari

How would you assess the contributions of Tanavob to the development of the energy sector in Iran?

One advantage of the sanctions was that they enabled us to expand our activities to new sectors like oil and energy. The National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC) and the Ministry of Petroleum were concerned with the competencies of Iranian companies and their capability to manage large-scale projects. Now it is evident that Iranian companies have the capabilities to operate in the energy sector and to compete with foreign companies. Tanavob successfully entered the energy sector in this way and achieved all expected results. Now our clients are convinced that Iranian companies are perfectly capable of meeting their expectations.

Are you seeing increased interest from foreign investors and other companies in the energy sector?

Foreign companies are interested in investing in Iran but are still worried about the political consequences of doing business here. We are currently negotiating with some companies to close partnerships. These are important companies that strongly want to have a presence here and want to operate in Iran in spite of the challenges that still exist.
