Country Manager Nigeria, TechnipFMC
TechnipFMC has an excellent track record of winning new projects and being able to execute them. Opportunities are limited globally. In this new environment with lower oil prices, every company asks for the lowest level of technology available to get the oil out of the ground. We see standardization globally as a supplier of equipment and services and we are promoting this in Nigeria. This goes back to lowering the project CAPEX and the breakeven point so that projects can move forward. However, Nigeria has two of the main projects in the pipeline for 2018-19. Our objective is to win the available projects so we can continue the work we have done and be sustainable in terms of all the investments we have made. For the future, I see a more Nigerian operation, where our mix of expatriates to locals keeps moving in the right direction in support of the local content law. On the equipment side, we produce it all here. The shift will, therefore, be on the project management side and the development of the Nigerian workforce so that they can execute the projects 100% from here. By reducing the interfaces and costs of project management, we enable companies to go ahead at the current oil price levels. This, in turn, allows Nigeria to continue to produce and reach its targets.
Managing Director, Saipem Contracting Nigeria
Egina Field is a great project for us. We are the contractor for only a single part of the project, the umbilical riser and flow lines; however, it allows us to really shine. The concept of single hybrid risers that we are installing is important. We have worked hard to ensure that our operations have satisfied every client requirement and have succeeded. Our competence, dedication, and commitment throughout this project have been extremely high. It is one more success story in our books. Egina has allowed many people to remain employed despite falling oil prices. Additionally, it is the first project to be awarded since 2010, which is the year the Nigeria Content Development Act came online. This project is huge for Nigeria. We have large investments in the country and our integration is unparalleled. We have fabrication capabilities in Port Harcourt, and we have fabricated over 40,000 tons of steel in Nigeria by Nigerians through the Egina Project. This is fundamental to our operations. Talent is as available in Nigeria as it is in any other part of the world. We need to grow people, and it can only be done if a company has a policy of staying put and dedicating itself to the country. No one is born a manager or an engineer; they are trained to become those things.

Schlumberger provides technology services and products that help our customers efficiently find and develop hydrocarbon accumulations. One of our main responsibilities is to make sure we maintain quality, cost competitiveness, and focus on meeting our customers’ needs. In times like these, service companies need to bring innovation and cost efficiency to make every dollar our customers spend count. We are proud of our participation in the first successful oil discovery in Nigeria at Oloibiri, now in Bayelsa State, in 1956. Since then, we have been instrumental in many of the hydrocarbon discoveries in Nigeria and have helped, along with other service companies, in the various development projects that followed. We have a strong footprint in the country with several physical locations across the country, the majority of them being in Niger Delta. We were also the first international services company to hire Nigerian engineers and send them abroad to work internationally on par with their peers from around the world, and we have done this for decades. Today, we are pleased that many of the leading Nigerian service companies in the industry are led by Schlumberger alumni and are doing well. That means we did something right by creating that exposure. Today, we have partnerships in key areas with Nigerian companies both during project execution and in our supply chain.
