"Our objective for ADIPEC 2022 is to advance the industry’s ambitions to mitigate climate change, support the energy transition, and facilitate net-zero energy systems."
ADIPEC has been at the heart of the energy industry since 1984, driven by its dual mission of delivering the energy needs of today, whilst investing in the energy systems of tomorrow.
How is ADIPEC engaging with the theme of energy transition in the UAE?

In recent years, the industry’s attention has increasingly turned to the measures it can take to reduce emissions and ensure a net-zero future. As a result, in 2022 the drive to net-zero will play a more prominent role in ADIPEC’s strategic program than ever before. From the evolving portfolios of energy companies looking to embrace new solutions, to the technological innovations disrupting the sector and providing new growth opportunities, ADIPEC will convene global leaders and industry executives from across the energy value chain, to share knowledge, experience, and expertise. We have introduced a new decarbonization zone, which will enable companies to showcase their innovations and tap into the commercial opportunities presented by the need for cleaner energy. The energy transition will also be at the heart of our strategic conference, where trusted high-level speakers from across government and industry will articulate the energy paradox and demonstrate the action being taken toward decarbonization and the energy transition. Taking place pre-COP27, ADIPEC 2022 will be the global platform for leaders to reinforce strategies and commitments that will drive the industry towards reducing emissions, meeting decarbonization goals, and providing a realistic view on short- and long-term energy outlooks. Then in 2023, COP28 will be hosted by the UAE, meaning that ADIPEC will have ever greater proximity to COP. ADIPEC is well positioned to take advantage of greater interest in the region and showcase the meaningful steps taken by the UAE to meet its climate targets, as well as the innovations taking place more broadly in the region.

How do you see the balance between commerciality and the need to meet energy demands as part of a fair and equitable transition developing in the UAE, and what role will ADIPEC play in this pursuit?

The UAE is leading the energy transition through its ambitious goals, its role as host of COP28, and its investments which have shaped the hydrogen economy. The UAE demonstrated stewardship through its actions at COP26, including launching the Hydrogen Leadership Roadmap to achieve national net zero ambition, announcing a USD1-billion Energy Transition Accelerator Financing Platform for renewable energy projects in developing countries, and launching a USD4-billion AIM for Climate initiative to invest in agricultural innovation for climate action. ADIPEC will showcase the country’s leadership in this space, whilst amplifying its vision for a balanced, proactive, and positive approach to the energy transition that is pro-growth, pro-sustainability, pro-prosperity and pro-climate. The convening power of ADIPEC will accelerate the exchange of ideas and innovation to support energy 4.0, energy transition, and strategies for a low-carbon future. ADIPEC 2022 is expected to host over 150,000 energy professionals, 12,000 delegates, and over 1,200 speakers. Our exhibition floor will also feature more than 2,200 companies, and 28+ country pavilions. As a global energy conference, ADIPEC welcomes energy leaders from across the value chain, and across 350-plus sessions and panels offers them a platform to express their views and highlight how complex the global energy transition really is. COP26 highlighted how the energy transition will take place at a different pace and scale depending on the country. Global decarbonization will require a recognition of this kind of diversity in the energy sector, and this diversity is something ADIPEC is well placed to highlight.

Looking ahead, what are the priorities for ADIPEC for the rest of 2022?

Our objective for ADIPEC 2022 is to advance the industry’s ambitions to mitigate climate change, support the energy transition, and facilitate net-zero energy systems. To do this, we firmly believe in the need to create a platform where policy makers, energy leaders and industry professionals can share their insights. Given all the changes taking place in the sector, and the renewed global focus on the Middle East, thanks to COP27 and 28, ADIPEC is well placed to deliver a conference that is once again a major event for the industry.
