What ideas led to the founding of Saloglu?

The founding of Saloglu was based on the idea of Azerbaijan’s economic development, in accordance with the program for the socioeconomic development of districts, which was proclaimed by President Ilham Aliyev.

What percentage of your goods is exported?

Currently, 25%-30% of our products are exported, and we expect that this ratio will increase in the coming years.

How are you striving to improve the “Made in Azerbaijan” trademark abroad?

The Azerbaijani brand has made a positive impact on our sales. First of all, the sale of locally manufactured goods in foreign markets is in itself a source of great pride. As I mentioned earlier, 25%-30% of our goods are exported. We have participated in various international exhibitions in order to improve the “Made in Azerbaijan” trademark abroad. We try to follow the latest trends emerging in foreign markets as well as apply the most recent technology, raw materials, and designs. In other words, we try to keep up with the times.

What has been driving growth in the furniture business and will there be new growth areas in the future?

The main factors of growth in the furniture business are the availability of large production site and the effective operation of process lines. If we add to this a prudent personnel policy, the business will be likely to succeed. Effective price management can also lead to growth. In the short-term, the key growth factors in the furniture business are maximum quality and minimized costs.

What is the current capacity utilization of your plants?

Our plants are currently operating at 50%-60% capacity.

How would you rate Azerbaijan as a production base for furniture?

Generally speaking, all of the conditions for production are available in Azerbaijan. Considering the fact that Azerbaijan has been independent for only 20 years, the current level and achievements of local producers are evidence of the attention and care on the part of the country’s leadership.

How would you describe the investment climate for the Azerbaijani manufacturing sector?

As is the case with every sector, the positive results of the reforms carried out in Azerbaijan in recent years are apparent in manufacturing. Our entrepreneurs are not concerned about local and foreign investments being made in the national economy. The state has become a reliable guarantor for every business entity. The government has earned the confidence of all of our entrepreneurs. As a result of this, the investment environment in the country’s manufacturing sector is very favorable.

What is your outlook for the Azerbaijani economy in 2013?

The Azerbaijani economy has been developing rapidly and consistently. Economic development programs, based on our national leader Heydar Aliyev’s philosophy that “a country with a strong economy can achieve anything,” are successfully carried on by his worthy successor, President Ilham Aliyev. This has strengthened the position of our country in all areas. The Azerbaijani economy will continue to grow and expand in 2013 because all the programs were carefully prepared and are being successfully implemented.

What are the medium-term goals and growth objectives for Saloglu?

The scope of activities in the furniture business is very broad. Our goals include entry into new areas of furniture production, increased exports, and a strengthened position in the domestic market. We are sure we can achieve these targets because the President of our country, who has managed to lead the country out of difficult times and create the present-day prosperity, will continue to support private-enterprise development in the years ahead. For our part, we at the Saloglu furniture company will do everything in our power to develop our country and statehood.
