TBY talks to Cornelia Kieferle-Nicklas, Managing Partner, Kieferle & Partner on the Jewel of the Creek project.

Cornelia Kieferle-Nicklas

What is the idea behind the Jewel of the Creek project?

The Jewel of the Creek project has a unique location on the Creek—our idea was to reflect the constant flow of the waves in the project. We have already built a massive underground “city" basement on four levels—close to 480,000sqm. The first super-structure phase, the so-called “island," will open next year. It is a complex of five towers on a podium featuring a five-star hotel with 460 rooms and a total of 340 five-star serviced apartments, a restaurant, mall, and a marina along the creek. Jewel of the Creek is almost a new city that will cover an area of 1 million sqm. The complex will be a car-free zone with landscaped recreational areas on the ground level.

What projects are you most excited about?

We have large-scale hospitality projects in Mecca and Jeddah. Looking at 2018, Saudi Arabia has picked up and will continue to pick up as a market. We have big ongoing projects in Dubai too. We have another tower here next door for DAMAC. We are also looking at hotel interior refurbishment and renovation projects. We are getting ready for the Expo 2020, so we have a positive outlook for 2018.
