TBY talks to Wael Allan, CEO, Drake & Scull International, on the sector.

Wael Allan

What milestones has Drake & Scull accomplished in the last few years?

We are the number-one provider of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) services in the region from a size perspective. There are certain jobs that are complex and have a huge financial burden, as well as requiring a large number of staff for execution. Drake & Scull is one of the few, if not the only one, that can execute large projects such as the Presidential Palace's MEP. Our scope of work value is in excess of AED1 billion. In terms of quality, our delivery of MEP is high compared to others.

What is the scope of your operations in the UAE as well as in the GCC?

We are excellent at MEP and are successful at doing projects in the UAE and surrounding areas. We will continue to do MEP in the region, and our core areas include the UAE, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia. We also have operations in Kuwait and Oman. We have diversified previously in general contracting and civil work; however, we will be reducing that aspect significantly. We will not do any civil or general contracting outside of Dubai.
