TBY talks to Raul Rivero, Member of Management Board, Banco ProCredit, on the sector.

Raul Rivero

What has been your impact on Colombia's economic development?

The Colombian banking system's approach toward SMEs is mainly focused on products and not on the cash flow of the company. We put a lot of effort into understanding the business model of the company and as a consequence, its cash flow. This means that we propose products that adjust to the cash flow of the company and do not offer products that are not required by a business. Another differentiating factor for us is our transparent fees and interest rates.

What is your commitment to the environment?

Our environmental approach has been in our roots and operations since the beginning, so we decided to develop three pillars. First, we monitor the electricity, waste, energy, and water consumption in our operations. We have a system in place that monitors all our institutions and fulfills certain goals in order to systematically reduce our negative impact on the environment. Second, we employ a special assessment form on the environmental impact and the fulfillment of local and global rules. Third, we provide clients with tools to fulfill environmental requirements.
