TBY talks to Thomas Otersen, CEO, Agility, on the sector.

What have been the milestones for Agility Colombia since expanding your operations in the country?
One milestone has been the recognition of Agility as a major company in logistics. Agility has over 500 offices around the world. We have a major competitive advantage with all the agents in different places. Another major milestone is the opening of the Agility Colombia branch as a joint venture. We have been here over the last 10 years with agents, and we saw the potential of Colombia. Therefore, we started an Agility branch. Since then, everything has gone up.
What are the strengths and weaknesses of Colombia's logistics sector?
The infrastructure of Colombia has changed; it has improved drastically in the last 10 years. The road from Cali to Buenaventura is almost done after six years of construction. From Cartagena to Bogotá there is a new road called Ruta del Sol, a great highway around 1,000km that is almost completed. The problem for importers and exporters is that most of the industries in Colombia are located in cities like Bogotá and Medellín, which are far from ports. Ocean freight from Shanghai to Buenaventura is less expensive than Buenaventura to Cali or Bogotá.
